Melbourne couples are spoiled for outdoor ceremony locations. Within two hours of the city you can get ocean views, vineyard landscapes, fern gullies, mountain ridges, and private garden settings. The challenge is not finding options, it is narrowing them down.
Here is a practical guide to the best outdoor ceremony locations around Melbourne and Victoria, organised by region, with a few things worth knowing about each one before you commit.
Yarra Valley
The Yarra Valley is the most popular region for outdoor weddings in Victoria and it earns that reputation consistently. The combination of rolling vineyard scenery, quality natural light, and established wedding infrastructure makes it work for a wide range of ceremony styles.
Popular spots include Stones of the Yarra Valley, Immerse Winery, TarraWarra Estate, and Yering Station. For something more intimate, private properties throughout the Valley can be hired specifically for ceremonies and often photograph beautifully even without the established venue credentials.
Worth knowing: the Yarra Valley is about an hour from Melbourne's CBD and traffic on a Saturday afternoon can be significant. Build this into your timeline.
Mornington Peninsula
The Mornington Peninsula offers a different kind of outdoor ceremony than the Yarra Valley. It is more coastal in feel, with ocean views, cliff-top settings, and vineyard landscapes that sit alongside the sea rather than inland.
Popular locations include Montalto Vineyard, Hells Bells at Merricks, The Enchanted Garden, and various private properties throughout Red Hill, Merricks, and Main Ridge. The Peninsula also has beach access for couples who want a coastal ceremony, with All Smiles Sorrento and Rye both offering accessible foreshore locations.

Dandenong Ranges
The Dandenong Ranges have a completely different feel to either the Yarra Valley or the Mornington Peninsula. It is closer to the city than both, about 35 to 45 minutes from Melbourne's eastern suburbs, and the landscape is more enclosed and intimate.
Ceremony locations in the Ranges tend toward private garden settings, properties with established trees and fern gullies, and venues that feel removed from the city without the long drive. Cloudehill Gardens, Burnham Beeches, and various private properties are popular choices.
Melbourne Parks and Gardens
For couples who want to stay in the city, Melbourne has excellent park and garden options. The Royal Botanic Gardens are popular for outdoor ceremonies but require a permit booked well in advance. Fitzroy Gardens and Treasury Gardens are alternatives. Both the Carlton Gardens and the Flagstaff Gardens work for smaller ceremonies.

Weather backup: Melbourne weather is not to be trusted. Any outdoor ceremony needs a genuine wet weather plan, not just a vague 'we will figure it out'. What specifically happens if it rains?
Sound and power: if you want amplified sound, check whether the location has access to power or whether you need a generator. Parks often have restrictions on sound levels.
Access: how will your guests get there and where will they park? This matters more than most couples think when they are imagining the ceremony from the inside.
